Let Your Light Shine

Light is sown for the righteous, And gladness for the upright in heart. Psalm 97:11 NKJV

Psalm 97 gives a fresh perspective on the old children’s song, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.”

I love the imagery of God sowing good things for me to discover and explore.

God buries His seeds of light in the dirt. He created us from the dust of the earth; we are the dirt in which He buries His light.

Our job is to feed, water and nurture the seed. If we do, God will give the increase. His light will poke through the dirt and give illumination to all who pass by. God will produce fruit that we have the privilege to bear.

In the Bible, “light” is a multifaceted symbol representing hope, truth and divine presence, among other things. God has planted His divine presence in the dirt of our lives. How do we nurture that presence in order for it to grow and produce fruit? LOVE!

Loving the Lord our God is the first and greatest commandment (Matthew 22:38). How to we love God? We show up every day at our appointed time with affection. We sing our love in praise and adoration. We write love letters to Him in our journals. We ask Him to stir a passion in our heart for Him. We act as if nothing else matters but Him and His kingdom, at least for one hour a day.

Oh Beloved, pour your love on Him and watch His seed of light breakthrough the dirt in your life. See His light grow and bring you gladness of heart. Enjoy the opportunity to bear fruit in every season.

Go and let your light shine today.
