Is your country’s culture keeping you from Jesus?

Recently, God gave me a vision of roots entangling feet and ankles, thereby restricting the people from going higher with Jesus. We were praying for the worldwide church. I sensed those roots were cultural aspects of the various nations binding Christians to the earth.

Jesus loves us and calls us to come higher with Him. He invites us deeper into His heart. Father, Son and Holy Spirit make their home in us. We can have intimate fellowship any time we take a moment to acknowledge His presence. What holds us back?

Sometimes it is the culture around us. I constantly push against the frantic pace of our culture to keep my quiet time with Him. Total dependence on my Savior is countercultural here. Avoiding the slander and gossip so prevalent in our culture requires daily vigilance over my tongue. I cannot be bound by these earthly things. God has a higher path for me.

God has a higher path for you too. What are the hinderances in your culture? Are you considered a traitor because you believe? Do tearful prayers brand you as undignified? Are you still clinging to family or familiar spirits? Take two minutes right now to ask God to reveal any roots that bind you to the earth.

Father God, take your ax and cut those cultural roots. Chop down the unfruitful trees in our lives (Matthew 3:10). Get rid of everything that binds us and keeps us from going higher with you. Amen.
