Ignite Your Kids’ Hearts for God’s Word
1. Hear God’s Voice. Point out the subtle ways we hear God through His Word. His peace, His drawing, His quiet inner voice will all be demonstrated as we read His Word. Once your children recognize how God speaks to them personally, they will be hooked!
2. Let them have ownership. Give your children choices and let them choose. This is their relationship with Jesus. Will you watch a video and discuss or read a book? Topical study or a book study? Are they old enough to lead their own study?
3. A verse for every struggle. Are they worried about making friends at a new school? There is a verse for that. Are they having bad dreams? There’s a verse for that too. Draw or write the verse on a card so they can carry it with them and recite it when they need comfort and peace.
4. Share delicious morsels. When you share insights and inspiration that God has given you from the Word, your children will desire that for themselves. Fire is caught, not taught.
5. Consistently serve them bread. When our children are babies, we must spoon feed them so they can ingest their food. Even when they can feed themselves, we must consistently prepare food for them and place it in front of them. The same is true with spiritual food. As they grow, we must still constantly serve them the bread that brings life.
I would love to hear your ideas for igniting our children’s hearts for God and His Word. Please share them in the comments.
Art Note: I uploaded my painting for this week into AI. I asked AI to change the painting to a graphic style; what you see here is the result. Please let me know what you think.
